Deaths.
BROOKE. — On the 24th October, at the Military Hospital, Middelburg, Transvaal, South Africa, Harry Hanley, eldest son of W. H. Brooke, and beloved brother of A.H., C.M., and A. A. Brooke, “Daldonie,” Parkside-street, Elsternwick. South African papers please copy.
HAND. — On the 31st October, killed whilst on active service, at Blood River, South Africa, Trooper F. H. Hand, Bethune’s Mounted Infantry, only son of H. Hand, Surrey Hills, aged 20.

An “In Memoriam” notice regarding Trooper Hand was published in The Argus on 31 October 1901, which mentions that he was known as “Frank”:
HAND. — In sad and loving memory of our dear and only son F.H.D. (Frank) Hand, who was killed at Blood River, South Africa, on October 31, 1899.
